The Empress upright
With The Empress comes spring, even if it's cold outside. This card celebrates everything that grows: projects, relationships, ideas and also your own capacity for enjoyment. It speaks of abundance as fullness, of surrounding yourself with beauty and tenderly caring for what you love. It's an invitation to reconnect with your body and your senses, to savour your food, to walk barefoot on the grass, to allow yourself pleasure without guilt. Creativity flows strongly under her influence, so make the most of it to give shape to what's inside you. And remember that the best way to nourish others starts with nourishing yourself. When you treat yourself with love, everything you touch blossoms a little more.
The Empress reversed
Reversed, The Empress usually means you're giving a lot outwards and very little inwards. You may feel you've lost touch with your creativity or your body, as if the well had run dry. In its excessive form, it speaks of caring so much that you smother, or of depending on other people's wellbeing in order to feel good yourself. This position doesn't signal scarcity; it signals the need to water your own garden again before you go back to tending everyone else's.
